Album Reviews

Suicide Season
When first setting eyes on Suicide Season, the first thing that comes to mind is 'Dear God'. The name, being emo enough, folloewd then by the picture on the front, is enough to put off a metal fan from wanting to open this album. However, get past the front cover, slip the CD into your PC, press play on iTunes, and something unexpected happens. What dawns on you, is that although the image of this album may be ridiculous, the music is anything but. Suicide Season is a ten track death trap produced by Fredrik Nordstrom [At The Gates, Arch Enemy] in Sweden. The production in seamless and crystal clear; the riffs rip through each and every song, and Sykes unforgiving screams screech throughout the album. For being such a young band, Bring Me The Horizon know their instruments, staying tight and unpredictable in each track. Tracks such as 'The Comedown', and 'Death Breath' are auditory bitch slaps, while 'Football Season Is Over' hits you as breakdowns come down at you from all angles to crush you. The only thing that brings down the album is cliche and cheesy lyrics. A lot of allusions of death and blood etc are littered throughout.  They use a lot of breakdowns, and a load of double bass, but this works for them because it's not sloppy. Suicide Season will sell a whole load of records, but it's nothing original. Its not bad if you just want a good mosh though either. If you enjoy having a healthy amount of breakdowns in your daily routine, then this album is for you.
